Phantom Forest Knysna

The Phantom Forest Eco Reserve, is privately owned, and is situated within 137 hectares of Nature Reserve, near Knysna. It nestles I the Afromontane Forest, with magnificent views onto the Cape coastal Fynbos, and estuarine wetland. There are over 150 species of birds, plus some of the smaller mammals such as bush pig, bushbuck, grysbok, and the rare blue duiker on the Reserve.

Accommodation is in large, luxuriously appointed tree suites, where emphasis was placed on the use of sustainable methods of construction. Alien vegetation, gleaned directly from the eco-restoration programme, has been utilised in floors, furniture, roofs and boardwalks. Drawing inspiration directly from nature, a harmonious balance has been created, from ragged thatch rising into the forest canopy, to wood shingle and a 'freshwater' nature pool.

The Classic Tree-suites:   (6 tree-suites) en-suite bathroom with double-ended bath and twin basins, separate shower room with double shower, bidet and toilet. Bedroom with lounge area plus outdoor living deck.

Upper Tree-camp suites:   (4 tree-suites) en-suite bathroom with double shower inside, and outdoor living area with jacuzzi/bath on the deck. Bedroom with separate lounge area.

The Moroccan Tree-suites:  (4 tree-suites) en-suite bathroom with double bath and  basins, separate double shower, bidet, and toilet. Large bedroom with lounge area and private deck outside.

The Classic Tree Suites can be enjoyed from the silky Swazi cotton sheets, to hand-woven coir carpets, stunning end-glass gables to the sensuous forest bathroom. Bathe in luxury to the sounds of the birds, or the tranquillity of the African sky.

The newer Moroccan Suites are decorated with a distinctly North African feel, from the sensuous touch of silk and velvet to the visual beauty of mosaic and handcrafted lamps. There are double glass showers and twin mosaic basins to double-ended baths, creating the perfectly romantic honeymoon getaway.

In the winter months, pre-dinner drinks are enjoyed around a cosy log fire. Where after, guests proceed to the Boma where dinner is a leisurely affair. Cuisine is New Age International with local colour, served a classic style. You can end a memorable and enjoyable evening with tales around the fire, whilst sipping an African-blend coffee and a liqueur.

Alternatively, you can experience Chutzpah – a Moroccan-style dining and  leisure space. The style can be called North African baroque, from the mosaic chameleon to Gaudi-style lizard lazing off the pool, and colourful cocktails, dates and Turkish delight...where meals are a feast, and 6 courses are served throughout the course of the evening.

To add to your overall enjoyment and relaxation at Phantom Forest, there is the Body Boma, offering treatments from full body massage, facials, wraps and scrubs.

Guests can also make use of mountain bikes, or go on forest walks, enjoy a dip in one of two salt-water swimming pools, go canoeing, and do a little bird-watching.
